Already underdogs...

And Keith Law seems to be blaming the Mets for losing to us. He hasn't picked us to win yet. Of Course, he hasn't gotten one series right.

It's worth mentioning that, of the 16 ESPN experts, only one had us leaving round 1. None had us in the Series.

That's not good. But absolutely none of them had Detroit passing round one. What do you bet they all pick Detroit this time. Perhaps they should. I'm never betting against this Cards team, though.

I stumbled across this site by virtue of chance. I am not a Cardinals fan, nor do I ever think I will be. I am, however a baseball fan, so I feel my thoughts are justified. Underdog, what an abstract idea. Does it mean that you're not the best team or the team that has the best players that can't quite seem to click? Does it mean that your fan base is strong, loyal and boisterous? Or does it simply mean that the odds are against you. Whichever or whatever the bookies will use as the definition, there is an ideal that has, in my opinion, diminished from the sport of baseball. The ideal that underdog is just a label. It is a cop out implying that you don't know who is going to prevail and you're making sure that if the "underdog" does indeed faulter, you can say "I told you so." Baseball is so great because there is no underdog. Both of teams that are playing in the world series are there because they earned it. Not by playing 16 regular season games, having 1 good day running or swimming at a record pace, or even having all your hopes tied up in your 7'5" center. Baseball takes up the better part of a year and the 162 regular season games take a toll on a player mentally, physically and emotionally. Baseball is a team sport. Yes, you have good and even great players, but 1 person cannot get the job done. Baseball is a game of skill and strategy. Good baseball teams are streaky. Good baseball teams have players that get injured. Good teams have players that are nobody and that are somebody. I guess the point that I'm trying to make is that the Cardinals are in the series for a reason. They are the best team in the NL. As for their chances in the series, here is my prediction; if Pujols can step up and produce some RBI's, the outfielders can start communicating and Wainwright and Johnson continue to pitch tough, the Detroit Tigers have their work cut out for them. Lets forget about the chances, odds and probability and watch some great baseball!
